The first British Airways flights from Stansted Airport will be off to a flying start this weekend with all the summer destinations fully booked.
Passengers have a choice of four top cities – Faro in Portugal and Malaga, Palma and Ibiza in Spain – with flights to Berlin starting next month. Flights to Malaga have proved so popular that frequency has been doubled to two flights every Saturday during August.
It is the first time British Airways has operated from Stansted, now the fourth London airport on its network. The summer-only services run to the end of October.
The flights are operated by BA’s wholly-owned subsidiary BA CityFlyer using 98-seat Embraer 190s, which are usually based at London City Airport.
BA CityFlyer general manager commercial and customer Luke Hayhoe said: “This is a great start to our new operation and we are looking forward to working with Stansted and giving our customers the choice of flying BA from a fourth London Airport.”
Flights include a choice of two cabins, Club Europe and Euro Traveller, free online check-in 24hr before departure and no debit-card charges.
Stansted CEO Andrew Cowan said: “This positive start is a clear demonstration of the strength of demand that exists across our region.”
